MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Sept. 14, 2026) — The Robert Jospé Quartet will bring an exciting mix of instrumental jazz, rock, pop, and Latin styles to the Piedmont Arts galleries on Thursday, Oct. 15. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7 p.m.
Featuring Jospé on drums, the quartet includes Daniel Clarke on piano, Paul Langosh on bass, and Brian Mesko on guitar. Their repertoire includes original works, standards from the Great American Songbook, pop, and classic covers by Herbie Hancock, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Leonard Bernstein, and James Taylor, as well as works by other well-known composers.
Jospé studied music at New York University. After graduation, he became an active player in the New York jazz and rock scene, co-leading the fusion band Cosmology. He studied with Tony Williams and Bob Moses and has performed and recorded with artists such as Tim Reynolds and TR3, John McCutcheon, Robin and Linda Williams, and Bobby McFerrin.
He has been a faculty member at the University of Virginia since 1989, teaching jazz drumming and rhythmic fluency courses for hand drums. He is a member of the university’s faculty jazz ensemble, The Free Bridge Quintet. He formed the Robert Jospé Quartet in 2022. In 2026, the group released “The Night Sky,” an album featuring nine original compositions and two classic covers. It is Jospé’s ninth album as a bandleader.
