Looted Art: An Opening Journey to Resolution

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Senior Manager of Provenance Research Karen Daly will discuss art looted during World War II on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Piedmont Arts. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the talk will begin at 7 p.m.

Issues of looted art and restitution, particularly art misappropriated during World War II, remain prevalent in art news coverage and important concerns for museums worldwide. This talk provides a historical overview of art looting, the museum community's response, how recovery and restitution efforts have evolved to the present day, and a discussion of VMFA’s experiences resolving two art restitution claims.

This event is free and open to the public. RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 23.
