American Indian Family Day

Join Piedmont Arts for a Family Day celebrating the art of the American Indian. Crafts, snacks and fun. All ages welcome. Enjoy a free performance by American Indian flutist Arnold Richardson. Also known by his Iroquois name, Tsa'ne Do'se, Arnold is a gifted musician and sculptor. He has recently been named a recipient of the North Carolina Heritage Award and his extraordinary gift of flute playing has brought him notoriety as a top American Indian flutist in the East. Crafts • Corn Husk Dolls • Beaded Necklaces • Mat Weaving • Write your name in Cherokee Shuttle Bus During Family Day, Virginia Museum of Natural History will offer a shuttle between VMNH, Piedmont Arts and the Historic Courthouse. Shuttle will run every 30 minutes, starting at 11:30 am. After you have visited Piedmont Arts, be sure to stop by VMNH, where Curator of Archaeology, Dr. Elizabeth Moore, will have a special display of a variety of archeological artifacts and tools for visitors to view. Free admission from 11 am – 1 pm. The Martinsville-Henry County Courthouse in Uptown will be open from 11 am – 1 pm as a bonus experience.
