A Century of Black Life, History and Culture
1/1/15 thru 1/24/15
Celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with, A Century of Black Life, History and Culture : Keeping Those Dreams Alive.
This exhibit features T-shirt designs by local students that memorialize Dr. King and his important contribution to the struggle for civil rights in America.
Each year the Martin Luther King Planning Council of Martinsville-Henry County hosts this T-shirt design contest. All students in MHC are invited to enter a design and the winning designs are printed on shirts and sold as a fundraiser for the Council’s annual County-Wide Teach-Ins, held in local schools each Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
This year’s winners are:
Traven Gilley – 5th Grade, Albert Harris Elementary
Nicholas Buck – 5th Grade, Albert Harris Elementary
Naijuan Dudley – 7th Grade, Martinsville Middle School
This marks the first year that there was a three-way tie between contest winners. The three winning designs were combined to create a collage, which will be printed on shirts.
To purchase a shirt, call Deb Norton at 276.224.6080.
