Opening reception brings a large crowd for the new exhibits 'Peace Post,' 'Legible Earth' and more

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 27, 2025) – A crowd of more than 120 people attended an opening reception welcoming the new exhibits, "Peace Post," "Legible Earth: The Fire Tapestries," "Depicting the Moment" and "Inspired Creations" on Oct. 24 at Piedmont Arts.

Artists Johnny Selman, Leah Raintree, Donald Towns and Betty Blessin spoke about the exhibits. The duo Counterpoint, featuring Amy Stuart on cello and Regula Daily on flute, performed during the reception.

Before the opening, art students from Martinsville High School met with Selman, the creative director of "Peace Post," for a discussion about the exhibit, his career in graphic design and his artistic inspiration. Selman is a native of Martinsville and a graduate of Martinsville High School. He said it was an honor to share this exhibit with students from his hometown.

The exhibits will be on view until Jan. 10, 2026. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free.
