The path of this Peruvian born artist Javier Tapia, who became a painter after pursuing studies in Industrial Engineering and Communications at the University of Lima during the 1970s, has been significant in the United States. He studied Fine Arts (Painting) in the art program of Santa Monica College in Los Angeles, California. He earned his Bachelors and Master’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with highest honors. He has been awarded several grants and scholarships; has participated in numerous International and National exhibitions. His work belongs in the collections of The National Museum of Peru, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, The Museum Pedro de Osma in Lima, Peru. His work is represented by Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, Virginia. He is currently an Associate Professor of painting and drawing in the Department of Painting and Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he has been teaching for the past 19 years.
