A Century of Black Life, History and Culture

Celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with, A Century of Black Life, History and Culture : Keeping Those Dreams Alive. This exhibit features T-shirt designs by local students that memorialize Dr. King and his important contribution to the struggle for civil rights in America. All students in MHC are invited to enter a design and the winning designs are printed on shirts and sold as a fundraiser for the Council’s annual County-Wide Teach-Ins, held in local schools each Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This year’s winners are: Traven Gilley – 5th Grade, Albert Harris Elementary Nicholas Buck – 5th Grade, Albert Harris Elementary Naijuan Dudley – 7th Grade, Martinsville Middle School This marks the first year that there was a three-way tie between contest winners. The three winning designs were combined to create a collage, which will be printed on shirts. To purchase a shirt, call Deb Norton at 276.224.6080.
